Outside the Classroom

Sport

A variety of competitive school sports are offered to students across all year levels including:-

  • Athletics
  • Swimming
  • Basketball
  • Netball
  • Football
  • Soccer
  • Touch Football
  • Cricket
  • T-Ball
  • Cross Country Carnival

In some cases, when there is a lack of numbers to form teams, our school invites neighbouring schools to fill in. Most sports use modified rules for Primary School students.

Our school enjoys competing in both South Australian Catholic Primary School Sports Association (SACPSSA) and South Australian Primary Schools Association S.A. (SAPSASA) competitions. This involves the selection of students to compete against a large number of other schools in our state (Catholic, public and Independent) at a more challenging level in a wide variety of sports.

(St Mary’s Memorial School follows the SA Junior Sports Policy which states that children begin competitive sports when they are eight years of age. Normally, that is when a child is in Year 3 and 4. The Junior Primary years are for developing skills and confidence in preparation for competitive sports.)

Music

We offer a wide variety of opportunities for students to develop their musical abilities. As part of the classroom music program, every class has a weekly half-hour music lesson with a specialist teacher.

An instrumental music program provides tuition to students wishing to learn:

  • Piano
  • Woodwind (for students Year 3 and up)
  • Percussion (for students Year 3 and up)
  • Brass (for students Year 3 and up)
  • Strings (for students Year 2 and up)

A senior choir, as well as a recorder ensemble, offer further opportunities for students to develop their musical talents.

In addition, we bring performers into St Mary's Memorial School every year to inspire our students.  These include annual Come Out performances, musicals, puppet and theatrical performances.
